Terry Barber Trio

International Countertenor Terry Barber is known for his extraordinary range both vocally and stylistically. Offering eight distinct concert programs from classical to Queen, Terry can enthrall and delight any audience.

Launched 2015, “Around the World in 80 Minutes” brings Terry, a pianist, and Cat with four (!) of her instruments to audiences around the US and Canada. The program offers unique arrangements by Emmy and Grammy-winning composers of the world’s favorite melodies in 10 languages, with songs like Danny Boy, Besame Mucho, La Vie En Rose, and Bridge Over Troubled Water.

February 2020 saw the Terry Barber Trio embark on a Midwest tour of “Around the World” performing in 18 cities, in 10 states, in 30 days. October 2021 saw the triumphant completion of the tour, with our re-re-rescheduled performance in Waterford, WI.

Terry offers Student Outreach Mini-Performances of his programs - performing for hundreds of students each year. In 2020, “Around the World” visited students in Oregon and North Dakota. Through the Manitoba Arts Network’s “Concerts in Care” series, the Terry Barber Trio performed in personal care homes, assisted living facilities, and retirement homes in every city of our 2015 Canadian tour.

Central Avenue Trio

Formed in 2017, the Central Avenue Trio is a triad of enthusiastic friends. Playing any music for 3 voices, Jason Smoller, Ryan Walsh, and Cat Cantrell freely switch parts and instruments while exploring all possible combinations of oboes and English horns for 3 players. CAT has performed in, around, and under New York City.

Enthusiastically supported by the Double Entendre Music Ensemble, CAT presents programs both for and in conjunction with DE.

Central Avenue Trio is named for the street on which the Laubin oboe shop is located - all three members perform on Laubin instruments.

Double Entendre

Based in NYC, Double Entendre Music Ensemble is a collective of like-minded musicians devoted to adventurous exploration of the double reed repertoire. From Bach to Bresnick, our concerts are passionate, uplifting and lively. Spearheaded by Kathryn Engelhardt, the Ensemble is noted for its first-rate musicianship and creativity. DE illuminates classics, revives neglected music, and commissions new works for these soulful instruments. From concert halls to beer halls, in churches and bookstores, in schools and parks, Double Entendre reaches a diverse audience wherever engaged listeners are found.

In 2020, DE went digital - producing a lively program of distanced recordings, in lieu of its in-person season. Full performance program is on DE's website, with notes and trivia (!) here.

A member since 2016, Cat has performed with DE all over the city - including Grand Central Station, on the High Line, and in many pubs for Double Entendre’s “On the Town” series. In 2019, Cat curated Double Entendre’s July collaboration with Classical Cafe, featuring a program of oboes and voice (both spoken and sung) at An Beal Bocht in the Bronx.
